List of Oppo devices that will get the ColorOS 12 update
Oppo unveiled full details of ColorOS 12, its newest platform based on Android 12. The company has also published a roadmap to update its existing devices in China to version 12, the first batch will be coming in early October (you can find the list at the bottom of this article).
Oppo chose not to follow Google with the Material You redesign, instead opting for acrylic icons and more natural shapes. Not just a static look, the new Quantum Animation Engine 3.0 is used to give objects a feeling of inertia for physically accurate animation.
The main goal of ColorOS 12 is to make multitasking easier and improve system readability. There are things like Quick Glance cards, much like widgets that display status information of connected smart devices and offer simple actions with buttons.
Another helper is Smart Sidebar 2.0, which can be pulled out from the side and offers contextually relevant actions based on the app you’re currently using.
Oppo developed a system to connect your phone and computer. You can view your phone’s screen on your computer, interact with it, and receive notifications. You can also easily drag and drop information between the two devices (even the clipboard is shared so you can simply copy and paste).
Car+ does the same thing while you’re driving – it installs a custom car UI on supported vehicles, allowing you to use your phone’s navigation and entertainment features, complete with voice commands.
Oppo’s AI assistant has also gotten smarter, the Schedule Assistant feature tracks your tasks for the day and will alert you and offer helpful actions like starting a map app to guide you where you want to go next.
A new animation engine is also used in Omoji – personalized 3D avatars that can imitate your every expression.
ColorOS also brings features that go beyond mobile. It can create a shared family room where you can share photos safely without going through social media.
There is also a shared calendar feature and a screen sharing feature that will help you guide less technically savvy people through any issues they may have with their phones.
There are a lot of internal optimizations too. Oppo claims that their new system reduces RAM usage by 30%, background power usage by 20% and increases average battery life by up to 12%.
The new system also optimizes internal storage usage, so read and write performance will decrease by less than 5% over a 36 month period.
Lastly, here is a list of which phones will be updating to ColorOS 12 and when. The Oppo Find X3 Pro and two OnePlus 9 flagships will be the first to get them early next month (note: this is for OnePlus phones in China, of course, global units will stick with OxygenOS). This list mostly contains flagships, but there are also mid-range devices.
